At Olentangy Summer Strings Camp our goal is to inspire young musicians through the joy of making music together with friends. Our camp provides opportunities for your child to improve their musical knowledge in a relaxed and fun setting. The orchestras and small groups are taught by fantastic teachers and coaches that specialize in string instruction. We offer several camp sessions based on experience and grade level to ensure the perfect blend of recreation and instruction.
Camp Sessions
Day Camp is available for all 6th-9th grade students. It includes 5 days of instruction with Olentangy string staff, guest teachers and performers, meals, art and craft supplies, camp t-shirt, recreational fees, and equipment. It concludes with a camp-wide concert on Friday at 5PM.

All day camp sessions are tailored to the musical needs of the students in each group. Students are placed in their group through experience listed in their registration and director recommendation. Please read below for more information on our sessions.

We also offer two overnight options for students who register for the intermediate and high school sessions. These add-on options include off-campus social outings, concerts, meals, and lodging in the Otterbein suites. Please see sidebar for more details.

Beginning
The beginning camp session is for students who have at least one year of playing experience.
Olentangy students rising from 6th grade are placed in this group.
​
This session focuses on the fundamentals of string playing.
Students will enjoy five days of large group playing and small group lessons with violin, viola, cello, and bass specialists as well as an alternative styles class.
Friday
9AM-5PM
Intermediate
The intermediate day camp sessions are for students who have at least two years of playing experience (or with teacher recommendation). Olentangy students in 7th and 8th grade are placed in these groups.

This session focuses on ensemble skills.
​
Students will enjoy five days of large group playing, small group lessons with violin, viola, cello, and bass specialists, and chamber ensembles.

Friday
9AM-5PM
Advanced
The advanced camp sessions are for students who have at least three years of playing experience (or with teacher recommendation). Olentangy students from 8th and 9th grade are placed in this group.
This session focuses on musical expression skill.
​
Students will enjoy five days of large group playing, chamber ensembles,music theory, leadership activities and an instrument repair workshop.
​

Available to students who were in grades 6-9 during the 2023-2024 school year.
